Ligia M. Houben is an author, consultant, and professional speaker. Her specialty is to help people find meaning in life transitions, including divorce, loss of a job, aging and end of life and transform any loss or crisis they may be experiencing. As they transform their losses, they can change their lives.
She obtained her B.A. from the University of Miami in psychology and Religious Studies and a Masters Degree in religious studies and gerontology from Florida International University. Ligia also has a Graduate Certificate in Loss and Healing from St. Thomas University and is a Certified Grief Counselor, a Certified Addiction Counselor and a Certified Thanatologist: death, dying and bereavement. Ligia is also certified as an Alzheimer’s disease training provider. She has specialized in a system of reminiscence called, "Life Review." She facilitates groups, offers workshops and does life transitions consulting with families and individuals.
Ligia finds the spiritual dimension to be an essential component of our lives, especially for the aging population as it is shown in her book La Virgen Maria y la Mujer Nicaraguense: Historia y Tradicion (The Virgin Mary and the Nicaraguan Woman: History and Tradition). Ligia is an adjunct faculty of Florida International University, adjunct faculty of Kaplan University, a member of (CEPI) (Circle of Latino American Writers and Poets), a member of Florida Speaker's Association (FSA) and an instructor at the lifelong learning center of the University of Miami (OSHER) and Barry University (OAOC).
Ligia has been a host on numerous radio and television programs regarding the issues of healthy aging, dealing with terminal illnesses and loss and grief.
Ligia provides telefone coaching and training worldwide and in person Coaching and Training in the US. She provides services in English and Spanish.
